Diving In!

June 6, 2022

10 years old.

53 fractures.

13 surgical procedures.

Tiny body frame, covered in scars…

This little boy decided a couple of months ago to try to participate in a sport for the first time (the only sport that a fragile body like his can handle). Slipped on the deck and broke his shin at his very first swimming lesson. Showed up to his lesson the next day, and kept swimming, broken leg and all. Signed up for the swim team. Started to learn a few strokes. Learned how to dive off of the blocks (which required facing his fear of falling, overcoming a protective mental block that told him he should never throw himself headfirst into anything, and rewiring his mind.) Swam in his first unofficial meet last week with his daddy – one of his greatest protectors and advocates – standing by his side and talking him through it all.

And he did an AWESOME job!!

Words can’t explain how courageous, strong, and brave this boy is. He’s an overcomer. A heroic little human. A daily inspiration to us, and we love him so much.

His first official swim meet will be this Thursday. If you think about it, please say a prayer for continued courage and safety. We never thought that a team sport would be a reality for him, but here we are. We’re hoping that being on the swim team will be a positive, joyful, safe experience for him. When it comes to athletic options for him, swimming is pretty much it. So, we’re praying for the best! 💙#JustKeepSwimming#BreakableBody#UnbreakableSpirit
