A friend shared this image today, and it instantly put a lump in my throat. Over the years, Bryan and I have watched as people have automatically shown great compassion toward our Haven, who happens to fall into the top category. Because of his highly visible struggles, help is offered to him freely, willingly, and plentifully. And we are so thankful for that. But, we also have a son who happens to fall into the bottom category. Compassion and help are not always offered to him freely, willingly, and plentifully…because his struggle is an “invisible” one. This has been a painful truth for us to swallow over the years. I’d be lying if I said we have never lost sleep over that truth. However, we will never stop trying to help others to see that those with “invisible” struggles need just as much compassion and help (if not more, in some cases), than those whose struggles are highly visible. This image is a very simple, yet profound, reminder of that.  I couldn’t help but share it on here today. ♥
