Go for it!

June 10, 2018

This week, Grace will be playing/pitching in the championship game of the Hendricks County 10U Tournament. Her team has remained undefeated so far in the tourney.

Three years ago, she asked us if she could start playing softball.  We knew she was incredibly athletic.  But, a small, fearful voice inside of us said that we should just tell her, “No,” and steer her toward sports that don’t rely so heavily on dexterity, to prevent any potential frustration or disappointment that could come her way.  But, a much louder, clearer voice inside of us told us to tell her, “Yes! Go for it!”

So, that’s what we did.  We told her to go for it.

What a shame it would have been if we had told her, “No,” in an attempt to protect her. We would have missed out on the joy of watching her excel in a sport that she has grown to love so much. We would have missed out on the joy of watching people come up to her and thank her for being an inspiration. We would have missed out on the joy of witnessing God’s strength shine through her physical “weakness”. We would have missed out on the joy of watching her respond to people who ask her why she writes “Phil. 4:13” on her arm before her games. We would have missed out on so much, and she would have, too.

So thankful that God gave us the courage to tell her, “Yes,” three years ago. Once we did, He started taking care of the rest.  And He has brought her to where she is today.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
