Light & Shadow

June 3, 2018

I don’t know where he was or what he was doing last summer…or the summer before that.  I don’t know how much he was taken outside to let the sun kiss his face.  I don’t know who or what brought light and shadow into his life.

Sometimes, that thought hurts.

But, I do know who and what brings light and shadow into his life now.  I know his every “what” and every “where”.  I know that his face is kissed daily, over and over again, by the sun.  And it is kissed daily, over and over again, by those of us who love him dearly.  His present joy (and ours), is what keeps me from dwelling on the pain of his past. I thought of that as I watched him sit on Sidney’s lap in the setting sun, with the shadows of a ballpark fence and the love he has for his big sister, written all over his smiling face…
