The Year of the Dog

Happy Chinese New Year!
Year of the Dog!
I bought these outfits for the kids while we were in China, with the intent of photographing them together once the new year arrived. Glad I decided to make room for them in my luggage. This photo, and those outfits, will always hold a very special place in my heart…IMG_6954c

My three Chinese blessings.
I’ve never prepared them an authentic Chinese meal. (But, I try to show them that my love for them, and their fascinating homeland, is authentic.) I’ve never thrown them a Chinese New Year celebration that fully observes all of the rich holiday traditions. (But, I try to fully and richly celebrate who they are, and where they have come from.) I’ve never enrolled myself, or them, in a Mandarin language class. (But, I try to fluently speak a language that encourages, uplifts, and inspires them.) I’ve never enrolled myself, or them, in a Chinese calligraphy class. (But, I try to write truths on their hearts that this rough world can never erase.) I have never, and will never, be the gold-standard adoptive mom. (But, I try to show these three kiddos that, to me, they are absolutely golden.)

Their teacher ROCKS. She really does.
When they walked into class this morning, she told Jackson that she really liked his shirt. He told her that he was wearing it because he was celebrating Chinese New Year. So, she decided to adjust her plans a little bit, and have the whole class make paper lanterns. Jackson said she thanked him and Grace for inspiring that class project. How awesome is that? So thoughtful. And we’re so thankful…

The highlight of our CNY celebration, though, was this seeing this photo. The family who found/saved/cared for Haven when he was a newborn sent it to me. It’s a glimpse into their Chinese New Year celebration. They took the money that we had sent to them last month (as a gift of gratitude for Haven’s life), and they used some of it to buy a feast for the new year.

They were so happy!  And that makes us happy!  #DoubleHappiness #LoveMultiplies
