Ready or not…

June 12, 2017

“You aren’t fully ready to adopt again.”
“You aren’t fully prepared for this.”
“You won’t be able to handle it.”

Any time the voices in my head start overwhelming me with those phrases, I dig out the small album that Grace’s orphanage gave to us, years ago. It contains the only photos we have of her first two years of life. Emptiness and sorrow are written all over her face in most of the images. Her eyes are filled with longing, and tell a tale of great loss.

Without fail, those images are always able to silence the nagging voices in my head.

The question at hand for us right now isn’t whether or not we are fully ready to adopt again. It isn’t whether or not we are fully prepared. It isn’t whether or not we will be able to handle it.

Bottom line??

No child is ever fully ready to be an orphan. No child could ever fully be prepared for that. No child is ever fully able to handle this life alone, without the love of a family.

Those painful truths are enough to keep us moving forward in faith…fully trusting that our Father will watch over our (imperfect) attempt to open our arms to the fatherless. HE can handle it. HE is prepared. HE is ready.

So, ready or not, here we come…
